Apprisen – Where we’ve been, where we’re going

Apprisen60-3-01-100x127As a national non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Apprisen has been actively helping individuals establish and regain financial balance and health for over half a century. We hold accreditations with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) and the Council of Accreditation (COA).

Our objective has been to help educate and support the development of solutions for all stages of an individual’s financial life. As a result of our experience, we have identified the key elements of effective money management. This knowledge is what has driven the development of many of the materials we use in our sessions and the financial topics we teach in our communities.

Originally called The Economy Budget Service Company, we served as the first free credit counseling service in the United States thanks to Harry E. Fuller, President of the Capital Finance Corporation. Established in Columbus, Ohio, our purpose was to aid families who were experiencing credit problems, through budgeting and guidance. Members of other communities from across the country began visiting Columbus to learn how they could duplicate our services to help their community.

In 1967, after being incorporated as Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Columbus, we expanded the scope of our work and provided opportunities for community involvement.

By 1981 we were expanding our services into other areas of Ohio. To reflect our outreach into other communities we became known as Consumer Credit Counseling of Central Ohio. In addition to reaching out to other areas of Ohio we began offering comprehensive financial services, housing counseling, a debt management program, and community financial education programs to better serve individuals and their families.

Within 19 years of serving the central Ohio area we began expanding our organization into other states. This growth period inspired the name change of Consumer Credit Counseling Services of the Midwest.

Fast forward to 2009 where continued growth and expansion meant we were no longer only serving the Midwest. As our methods, practices, and techniques made their way across the United States we chose the national name Apprisen Financial Advocates to link our growing family of services provided in local offices, by phone, and by internet.

2012 was an exciting year for us. We debuted a new name, Apprisen, and brand image to reflect our ongoing improvements and commitment to our clients. In addition, we became certified to provide debt management counseling in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Our corporate office resides in the city where it all started, Columbus, Ohio, but we have since expanded to having offices located in 22 cities within 8 states. Our financial counselors are certified through the NFCC and are trained to assess specific financial situations and create an action plan to help you reach your goals.

Still as innovative as when we began, at Apprisen we are always thinking of new ways to improve our services, the client experience, and the communities we serve through financial guidance towards financial health and well-being.
